I was never a crafty person or much into DIY or home décor until about nine years ago. Around that time, I’d started a new job and worked with a girl whose mother was an interior designer. By way of my coworker, I was introduced to DIY projects and little things you could do to make a space your own with a small budget and without hiring a professional. I don’t think I’d ever picked up a paint brush before until my coworker made the suggestion that instead of hiring a professional painting crew to give our office a much needed fresh coat of paint, we do the job ourselves. My employer was happy to have saved that expense and honestly it was a fun time. It so happens that Pinterest had recently launched around this time as well, which opened up a whole new world to me. I would spend hours pursuing home décor and DIY pins for inspiration to decorate the new one bedroom apartment my boyfriend (now husband!) had recently moved into. With not having done any such thing like it before, I DIY-ed the coffee and side table for the living room, turning the former plain Ikea Lack table into a wood-topped rustic piece (see below). And thus my love of DIY was born and the rest is history.
Disclaimer: I am no expert. I consider myself a novice because most times when I attempt a project, I have little clue what I’m doing. But I always do lots of research and watch lots of tutorials. So far, no major disasters yet!
When I’m not working on a project, being a wife to a wonderful husband and mother to a precocious three year old, I work full-time in higher education. In January 2020, we bought our first home. We are super excited to finally be homeowners and while I love the house, it is admittedly in need of some updates and our personal touch. In my dream world, we would have unlimited resources to update and decorate our home (boy, the damage I could do!), but in reality we do operate on a budget. We’re taking things slow and tackling home projects as we can. I hope to take you on our journey as we transition it from a house to our home and provide updates on other family adventures along the way.
